2. MEMBERSHIP PROCEDURES -
A. MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS
December 5, 2000
Prospective members shall visit Association meetings each week for
a month or longer to observe and offer help with projects.
- Informally during this period the club should ask: who
this person is and why do they want to join. What experience,
skills, and interests will they bring into the Association?
Is their personality compatible?
- The general Association workings should be explained to
the prospect.
When a prospect has become generally known by the voting membership
and it is felt that this person might make a good addition to the
Association, any voting member may make a nomination to the Membership
Committee for consideration of the prospect.
- Membership application is by invitation.
- The Membership Committee shall consist of the nominator
and at least two members of the Executive Committee.
- The nominator, or sponsor, must be willing and able to
lead the prospective member through the probationary period
and guide them through the goals specified below.
- The Executive Committee shall monitor the prospective
member's progress.
If the Membership Committee accepts the nomination, the prospect
shall complete an application form and pay a non-refundable application
fee of $25.
The Membership Committee will then conduct an interview with the
applicant. Following the interview, the Membership Committee shall review
the candidate along with the information gathered. If unanimously accepted
as a probationary member, the prospect shall enter the Extra Board and
begin to pay regular monthly dues as provided in these By-Laws commencing
with the next calendar month following probationary acceptance.
During the next six to nine months the probationary Extra Board member
shall:
- Choose and complete a project approved by the Membership
Committee that will make a positive contribution to the Association.
- Learn the Station names and abbreviations passing the "Station
Test" administered by a member of the Membership Committee.
- Demonstrate a mastery of the operating control systems for
throttles, switches and signals.
- Successfully complete participation in an assigned position
during a formal operating session.
- Read and become familiar with the Association Constitution
and its By-Laws, Standards and Procedures.
Between the sixth and ninth month of probationary membership the
Membership Committee shall re-interview the probationary candidate.
Following the interview, the Membership Committee shall vote a
recommendation of acceptance/rejection to the general voting membership.
If accepted, at the next regular business meeting, the probationary
member will be presented to the voting membership for an acceptance/rejection
vote by secret ballot. Approval must be by two thirds (2/3) vote.
The vote of the membership is final and there is no appeal.
The Executive Committee shall draft and adopt an official Membership
application form.
The Executive Committee shall draft and adopt an official Station Test.
